Congratulations to Jan Jenkinson; 3 silver & 1 bronze in the Hobart Wine show. Now can we expect similar outstanding efforts at the Bridge table?

President’s Report

In presenting this report for the 07/08 year I would like to focus on the people whose contributions to the club have ensured another successful year. The range of tasks performed by various members is surprisingly wide and I thought it worthwhile to list these and who is involved in them.

The first of these are the committee members.
Gavin Bailey, Graham Carbert, Cathy Elliott, Sally Clarke, Danny McColl,
Helen Spliet, Ian Callahan, Kate Waining, Lesley Baird have been involved in the following tasks: general club administration, liaison with State and Federal bodies, arranging the calendar of events, organising and running weekly and special competitions, managing the club web site, dealing and recording hands for events, setting up electronic scorers and scoring events, producing and posting web pages, directing events, supervising contracts, purchasing equipment and supplies, arranging social events.

In particular Graham assisted by Helen and Cathy Elliott carry the bulk of the administrative work. We are very fortunate to have Ian who underpins and manages the electronic matters which are now widely used by this club. Lesley, Sally and Kate take care of the matters that affect members.

In addition to committee members there are other people who contribute to the club.
Masterpoints Secretary – Kirsten Bailey
Directing events Norma Smith, Gill Bezette Roger Swain
Dealing hands Jean Welch, Barrie Welch, Ross Waining Norma Walker
Scoring Mike and Prue McCausland, Ann Graves
Social events Pat Clarke
Lessons Joan Rosenthal, Martin George, Gill Bezette
Publishing results Norma Walker
Duty Roster Norma Walker
Repairs & Maint Jack Wivell

The club finances are strong. There have been several one-off purchases this year. The main ones being electronic scorers and a public address system. It is planned, in the near future, to get more tables and some replacement chairs.

I am pleased to report a successful year. Membership has increased and participation in regular club competitions is strong. The increasing standard of play in the club is reflected by the number of members who have been successful in regional, state and national events and by the number of Tamar members who have represented the state this year.

Masterpoint Information Day

Change is in the air, and we must change with it. As you may know, the masterpoint scheme is undergoing an overhaul. In particular, the way in which masterpoints are sent in to headquarters will change. Masterpoint Secretaries and directors need to be informed and trained.
There will be Information Days to explain the changes, chaired by Martin Willcox from Melbourne.
South: Sat Dec 13th: all day beginning 10.00 AM.
North & Northwest: Sun Dec 14th: all day beginning 10.00 AM

Margaret Gibbs (State Masterpoint Secretary) and Simon Edler (TBA Chief Tournament Director) will also attend.

All club masterpoint secretaries and directors are urged to attend. Anyone else who may be interested is welcome to attend too.

More Calendar Corrections
admin on Saturday 15 March 2008 - 01:04:53 |
There appear to be several more changes required to the printed calendar.

TBA congress Swiss pairs" in Hobart should be June 28-29, not July 12/13.

Tas & Challenge Cup Open/ Handicap Teams should be July 12/13, not June 28/29. These events will be held in Launceston (Tamar club rooms).

"TBA Spring Pairs" should be Nov 9 rather than Nov 23.

Kingborough/Tamar challenge on 14th Sept not 2nd Nov.
